There are several different types of trucking authority packages that are available for trucking companies, including:

  1. Motor Carrier (MC) Authority: This type of authority is required for any company that operates commercial vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,001 pounds or more. It allows the company to transport goods for hire across state lines.
  2. Broker Authority: This type of authority is required for companies that arrange for the transportation of goods, but do not actually operate commercial vehicles. Brokers act as intermediaries between shippers and carriers.
  3. Freight Forwarder Authority: This type of authority is required for companies that arrange for the transportation of goods on behalf of a shipper, but do not take possession of the goods. Freight forwarders act as intermediaries between shippers and carriers.
  4. USDOT Number: A USDOT number is a unique identification number assigned by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to companies that operate commercial vehicles that have a GVWR of 10,001 pounds or more.
  5. State Authority: Some states may require additional authority, such as a state operating authority or a state specific USDOT number, for companies that operate commercial vehicles within the state.
  6. Some additional authorities are IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement), IRP (International Registration Plan) which are required for the movement of commercial vehicles across different states.

At Truckers Authority we have grouped these together into Intrastate Packages and Interstate Packages. We help you process all your permits and make sure you are compliant with FMCSA, USDOT, State DMV, and Your Fuel Taxes.
